Following the Leading of the Holy Ghost

by Chris D'Amico

As we enter the month of June, we must never forget the importance of being led in our hearts by the Holy Spirit. If we are not cautious, we can set into motion steps that are not from the Lord. Good ideas but not God’s ideas. All that we do concerning God and His will must come out of our hearts and from the Holy Spirit. 2 Timothy 3:1-5 defines the characteristics of human behavior in the last days. In verse four, we see individuals living out of their intellect only and committing to things that are strictly soulical and not out of the Holy Spirit. 2 Timothy 3:4 declares, “Traitors, heady, high-minded.” The ASV declares, “Headstrong.” The BAS declares, “Acting without thought, lifted up in the mind.” The Conybeare Translation declares, “Headlong with passion.” We are to filter all of our thought through the Word of God and submit our actions to the leading of the Holy Spirit of God.

Being Led by the Holy Spirit
When we seek God’s guidance, God will lead every believer by His Word and the Holy Spirit. Romans 8:14 declares, “For as many as are led by the spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” The Richert Translation declares, “We who are guided by God’s spirit are His offspring.” The Phillips Translation declares, “All who follow the leading of God’s Spirit are God’s own sons.” The Message Bible is wonderful, “God’s Spirit beckons. There are thingks to do and place to go.” God desires to guide all of us into the things we must do and the places we must go. It is vital that we filter all those good ideas before the Lord in prayer to discern His will and leading.

Our Spirit is the Candle of the Lord
Proverbs 20:27 declares, “The spirit of man is the candle of the Lord, searching all the inward parts of the belly.” The NIV tells us, “The human spirit is the lamp of the Lord that sheds light on ones inmost being.” It is clear from this passage of Scripture that the Holy Spirit will shed light into our human spirit and direct us in our inmost being. 1 Thessalonians 5:23 defines man’s makeup into three parts, “And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray to God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.” man is a spirit being, he possesses a soul, which is his mind, will and emotions, and he lives in a physical body. One minister said it this way, “The spirit of man contacts the Spirit of God, the soul of man contacts the intellectual realm and the body of man contacts the physical realm.” Based on this, we canconclude that God, who is Spirit, speaks directly to our human spirit by the Holy Spirit that lives within us. How exciting to know that God will speak into our inward parts and tell us what we need to know and what to do.

Filtering through our Intellect to get to His
Determine to filter through your own personal thoughts to get to His. This will not happen unless we stay in the Word of God and apply our hearts to praying in the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 14:2, 14-15, 18). The more time we spend praying in the Holy Spirit and feeding on the Word, the more we will be able to discern and filter out man’s intellect to hear God’s leading in our human spirit. 1 Corinthians 2:9-10 declares, “but as it is written, eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him. but God hath revealed them unto us by His Spirit: for the Spirit searches all things, yea even the deep things of God.”

We so appreciate you and believe with you for His leadings and His best always.
