Have you ever had a bad day? Even in the midst of the worst day you have ever had, there is deliverance from heaven! God is ready to deliver you from anything you are going though. Let’s look at a situation David went through. In 1 Samuel 22:1-2, the Bible says,
“David therefore departed thence, and escaped to the cave Adullam: and when his brethren and all his father’s house heard it, they went down thither to him. And every one that was in distress, and every one that was in debt, and every one that was discontented, gathered themselves unto him; and he became a captain over them: and there were with him about four hundred men.”
People who were discontented were drawn to David because the anointing of God was on him. The anointing of God can change discontent and distress into victory! Anointing from heaven will cause you to change, and your distress will be turned into overcoming power. God will not give up on you!
David was a man God had anointed to become king. Although he had an anointing on his life, he still went through trying situations on the way to fulfilling his call. Look at 1st Samuel 30:1-4 1
“And it came to pass, when David and his men were come to Ziklag on the third day, that the Amalekites had invaded the south, and Ziklag, and smitten Ziklag, and burned it with fire; And had taken the women captives, that were therein: they slew not any, either great or small, but carried them away, and went on their way. So David and his men came to the city, and, behold, it was burned with fire; and their wives, and their sons, and their daughters, were taken captives. Then David and the people that were with him lifted up their voice and wept, until they had no more power to weep.”
Verse 6 says,
“And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.”
Think about it. David lost his home in a fire, lost his wife and children to the enemy, and now his own people want to kill him. This situation caused distress in David’s life. But he didn’t allow it to overcome him. The Bible says he “encouraged himself in the Lord.” David understood a very vital ingredient to victory. He knew he needed to encourage himself in God. He knew the secret of how to get into victory. He began to talk about how God was a big God and remembered everything God had delivered him from. (1st Samuel 17). He was able to get back on the victory side by saying what God said about his problem! David didn’t dwell on the circumstances, but broke through the distress by thinking and speaking about God and His Word. David exalted God instead of the problem, and he overcame the discontent.
After David encouraged himself in the Lord, he asked God what he should do next. 1st Samuel 30:8 says,
“And David inquired at the LORD, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? shall I overtake them? And he answered him, Pursue: for thou shalt surely overtake them, and without fail recover all.” God restores what the devil steals!
God equipped every Christian with a dream and a purpose. Although the devil may try to steal your dreams from you, god wants you to pursue them. Overtake them, and take back what belongs to you!
Let’s read on in the chapter and find out what David did next. David took 400 men to pursue and overtake the enemy that had attacked their camp. Verse 16 says,
“…behold, they were spread abroad upon all the earth, eating and drinking, and dancing, because of all the great spoil that they had taken out of the land of the Philistines, and out of the land of Judah.”
The enemy took the spoil that belonged to David and his men and had a party with it. Can you imagine what David felt like when he saw the enemy with his family and possessions? God birthed in David the attitude to fight for what belonged to him. He desired to pursue and overtake the enemy and recover it all. He went right after his possessions. Notice verses 17 and 18:
“And David smote them from the twilight even unto the evening of the next day… and David recovered all that the Amalekites had carried away…”
David obeyed the voice of God and aggressively pursued what belonged to him. God wants us to be aggressive in pursuit of our God-given dreams and plans. Go after what God has called you to do. Even in the midst of a bad day or an impossible situation, pursue, overtake and recover what the enemy has stolen and go hard after God!
