Prayer and Politics – Hand in Hand

by Rev. Patsy Cameneti

God responds to requests. We call it prayer. If we want the help of God, we must enlist it. God has always intended for His people to pray for their leaders. In 1st Timothy 2:1-4 we are specifically told to do this very thing. God has such an incredible plan in these last days to bring the harvest in, and to lead up to the return of Jesus. We can be part of this plan when we pray for our leaders and those that assist them.

FOR SUCH A TIME AS THIS
Esther 4:14-16: “For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father’s house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this? Then Esther bade them return Mordecai this answer, Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish.”

Esther was a lady of destiny. She was just a simple girl that God elevated and brought to that particular place for “such a time as this” She was not elevated for a special time of luxury for her to personally enjoy. It was not just a Cinderella story where she was lifted from normal life to be Queen. No, she was brought to that position for “such a time as this,” or more specifically, for a time of crisis. This crisis was the purposed annihilation of her people.

God sees the future more clearly than we even see our past. He saw that Israel would need specific help at that time, and He provided it in Esther. But it was not only through Queen Esther that God brought deliverance to Israel. Having the right person in the right position at the right time is only PART of it. It was Esther supernaturally assisted by ALL of the Jews in Shushan on their knees in prayer.

Now, there are no names listed in the Bible on the people that prayed. When we pray we may never be famous or have our name in the history books. But I guarantee you, God has always intended that the people of prayer and the people of God hook arms with the people in political positions to super- naturally assist them. The two have always worked together, and they will always work together.

UNITED IN PRAYER
II Chronicles 20: 1-4: 2 Chr 20:1 It came to pass after this also, that the children of Moab, and the children of Ammon, and with them other beside the Ammonites, came against Jehoshaphat to battle. Then there came some that told Jehoshaphat, saying, There cometh a great multitude against thee from beyond the sea on this side Syria; and, behold, they be in Hazazontamar, which is Engedi. And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the LORD, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah. And Judah gathered themselves together, to ask help of the LORD: even out of all the cities of Judah they came to seek the LORD.

There is such power in united prayer. Here in the midst of a crisis the King of Israel called for a nationwide prayer meeting. It was powerful, too. The Lord gave them His battle plan, and following it brought victory for Israel. “And when they began to sing and to praise, the Lord set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten.” (II Chronicles 20:22) When God’s people pray, He answers!

OUR PART
Romans 12:1,4: Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.

Two of the ways that God works are number one through the prayers of His people, and number two through the powers that be. Since the attack n our nation on September 11th, 2001, we have seen the strength of our military. We have a powerful means to help at our disposal as well, and it is called prayer. Not only can we help what has happened in the pas by praying, but we can help affect the future, and we can help at the highest levels.

We may not be in the conferences in the oval office, and we may not be on the field with the FBI or CIA agents investigating the case and leads on things that have happened or that are yet to be, but we can go before them and be right there with them in prayer. Our prayers can make sure that the right people are in the right place at the right time to see and know certain vital information.

We may not be able to command the army of America or the Allied Forces, but we have a direct connection with Almighty God and the armies of heaven. And if the armies of heaven can help our armies, and we have a part to set them in motion, then we better do it. This is our part. Prayer is our part, and it is the most powerful thing we can do in these end times. Let’s do our part!
