Love and Be Loved

by Chris D'Amico

There are two basic needs of all humans, to be loved and to love. Why is it that so many relationships continue to fail in our culture? Why are Christian marriages falling apart? Why has the Body of Christ struggled to maintain unity and fulfill the great commission? The answer is the failure to develop and walk in the God-kind of love. In Matthew 24:12, Jesus declared one of the signs of the last days, “And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.”The Message Bible declares, “The overwhelming spread of evil will do them in- nothing left of their love but a mound of ashes.” Walking in love must be developed and put into practice to win over the last days relationship assaults.

God’s Love Shed Abroad in Our Hearts
Romans 5:5 declares, “And hope maketh not ashamed: because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit which is given to us.” The NEB declares, “Such hope is no mockery, because God’s love has flooded our inmost heart through the Holy Spirit he has given us.” The Living Bible tells us, “For we know how dearly God loves us, and we feel this warm love everywhere within us, because God has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.” Every person, in Christ, has the God-kind of love dwelling in their heart to grow in and display. The supernatural unconditional love from God has flooded our innermost being and must be released to those around us!

Make Walking in Love Your Highest Aim
1 Corinthians 14:1 tells us, “Follow after charity.” The Johnson Translation declares, “So above all else, set your desires on love.” Weymouth declares, “Be eager in your pursuit of this love.” Moffat’s declares, “Make love your aim.”Berkely says, “Make love your greatest quest.” Webster simply defines quest as: pursuit, search or investigation. We must above else, search out, investigate and seek to live and develop in our love walk with God and the world around us. Robert Browing once said, “Take away love and the earth is a tomb.” George Appleton once said, “Increase my capacity for love and decrease my impulse to throw stones, actually or mentally.” Mother Theresa once said, “If we judge people, you have not time to love them.”

Carnal or Consecrated
1 Corinthians 3:1-3 declares, “And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. I fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it neither yet now are ye able. For ye are yet carnal: whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and division, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?” According to the Scripture, envy, strife and division are indicators of carnality and reflect the behavior of spiritual immaturity. The Berkeley Translation says, “You are still of worldly influence.” Syriac declares, “You are walking in the flesh.” The Living Bible says, “You are controlled by your own desires and not God’s.” NEB declares, “you are still on the merely human plane.” Way Translation declares, “Are you not living lives far from the divine?”Cornish declares, “As carnal men still tangled in the mind of the flesh.” Are we flesh or Spirit ruled? Carnal or consecrated to walk in the love of God?

Let Love Reign
Ephesians 4:32, Amplified Bible, declares, “And become useful and helpful and kind to one another, loving-kind, tenderhearted (compassionate, understanding, loving-hearted), forgiving one another (readily and freely), as God in Christ forgave you.” The Cotton Patch says, “Deal gently with one another and maintain a good attitude.” Determine to let love reign and conquer in every situation.

Thank you so very much for your gracious support of this ministry. We appreciate you greatly!
