We need to be stirred. We need to be exhorted to keep our eyes on the Word of God. The world around us grows more complex, more adverse. But God will continue to be faithful to us and our families as we keep our faith firmly anchored in His Word. 1 Peter 5:7 declares, “Casting all your care upon Him for He cares for you.” The Jerusalem Translation declares, “Unload all your worries on Him since He is looking after you.”
Keep Our Eyes on the Word
2 Corinthians 5:7 declares, “For we walk by faith and not by sight.” Weymouth Translation declares, “For we are living a life of faith, not one of sight.” The 20th Century says, “For we guide our lives by faith and not by what we see.” Williams says, “For here I live by what I believe and not by what I see.” Faith is alive when we have placed our entire confidence in the promise of God rather than in our circumstances. Andrew Murray once said, “Feed your faith and starve your doubts.” Doubt sees only the obstacles, but faith sees the way around them. We must look to God’s Word in every situation and firmly believe what it says. God is the final authority.
Overcoming Fear and Negativity
2 Timothy says, “For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power and of love, and a sound mind.” Knox Translation says, “The spirit He has bestowed on us is not one that shrinks back from danger.” The Amplified tells us, “…but (He has given us a spirit) of power and of love and a calm and well balance mind and discipline and self-control.” H.E. Fosdick once said, “Fear imprisons, faith liberates; fear paralyzes, faith empowers; fear is disheartened, faith is encouraged; fear sickens, faith heals; fear makes useless, faith makes serviceable; most of all, fear puts hopelessness at the heart of life, while faith rejoices in its God.” Remember, faith secures us to the life giving Word of God while fear binds us to the negative experiences of life outside of God. Have we been negative or positive, faith filled or faithless?
Maintaining a Perspective of Faith
2 Corinthians 4:18 tells us, “While we look not at the things which are seen, but the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.” When we have a perspective of faith, we know that our present circumstances are temporal. They can change according to God’s Word. Or we can be changed through them into Christ’s likeness. “We are looking no longer on the surface of things, our inner eyes are fixed on the invisible which is eternal and which endures forever.” In Matthew 24:35 Jesus said, “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.” Believe God, stay in a perspective of faith and God will carry your cares. Live carefree!
Place Our Confidence in God’s Ability and Not in Ours
In our own ability we are limited. It doesn’t take long to figure that out. But that is good news because God is able to do what we cannot. “Now unto Him that is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we can ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us” (Ephesians 3:20). The Authentic Translation says, “Now unto Him who is supremely powerful to do infinitely more than we can ask or think, in accordance with the power that operates in us.” Remember, we are limited, He is not! All things are possible to us when we believe.
Speak the Answer, Not the Problem
When our hearts are filled with faith, our voice will be filled with victory! When our hearts are really in faith, our lips will overflow with the Word. We will speak the Word from a believing heart. “I believed therefore I have spoken” (Ps. 116:10). Psalm 107:2 says, “Let the redeemed of the Lord say so.” Let’s declare the Word boldly and watch change come.
